History

Despite modest beginnings, Drillmex has become one of the largest distributors of metal machining tools in Quebec.

In 1982, Ghislain Veilleux was already working as a representative for a tool company when the latter closed its doors. He then decided to strike out on his own and founded Drillmex Ltee. The business started in the basement of his home located in McMasterville. In 1984, he hired his first employee, Paul Ostiguy who had just obtained his diploma in machining technology.

The company grew rapidly and in 1986 Mr. Veilleux hired more staff and moved to premises in McMasterville, and in 1990, growth forced him to move into larger premises in Ste-Julie. The Niagara, Amec, and Horn lines will be added to Sumitomo in the range of products offered.

In 2005, Mr. Veilleux decided to retire and sell his company to Paul Ostiguy and his brother Christian.

The big jump

On February 1, 2005, the Ostiguy brothers took the plunge and became owners of Drillmex. The company continued its momentum, notably with obtaining the Seco line, and moved once again in November 2008, still in Ste-Julie, this time into spacious premises totaling 10,000 square feet.

On June 1, 2013, Drillmex acquired Outiltech Orléans, a major distributor operating for over 21 years in the Quebec region. This purchase allows Drillmex to increase its market coverage across Quebec.

Succession

Already technical representatives at Drillmex since 2008, Simon Mailloux and Stéphane Tremblay take over by becoming shareholders. In February 2022, Christian Ostiguy decided to sell and continued to work as vice-president of operations. Simon and Stéphane became co-owners of Drillmex with Paul Ostiguy.
